At approximately 8:30 on Monday night Jim George and his wife Gina were leaving a restaurant in Washington Mills when they noticed a car by the Precision Car Wash that appeared to have a fire inside. When Mr. George got closer to the establishment he noticed a teen outside of the car and the flames inside growing bigger. New Hartford Police and the Willowvale Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene.

Jim George's Eyewitness Account:

I was driving North on Oneida Street around 8:30, when my Wife & I noticed the reflection of flickering flames coming from the Precision Car Wash. We found a late model BMW with what looked to be a few flames coming out of the dash. We made sure that no person or animals were in the car as it very quickly engulfed the entire car. My wife was comforting the driver, who was in his early 20's, while I tried to redirect traffic to the opposite side of Oneida Street in order to keep traffic a safe distance away as the car was approximately 20-25 feet from Oneida Street. I was concerned that if there were to be an explosion, there could be serious damage/injury to passing motorists. I kept redirecting until the Police & Fire Department showed up. The car was a total loss.

There is no word yet on the identity of the driver and it appears there was no suspicious activity. There were no injuries reported. We will provide more details as soon as they become available. Jim will join us on First News with Keeler in the Morning tomorrow at 7:20 AM.
