Chadwicks, NY (WIBX) - Chadwicks was hit hard by the severe storm that made it's way through parts of the County early this morning, leaving flood damaged homes, a swollen creek, and downed trees. Emergency First Responders from 12 different departments, some coming from as far as Sylvan Beach, are assisting in the massive clean-up efforts underway. Officials from the Department of Environmental Conservation were also on the scene.

Willowvale Fire Company Chief, Bill Hughes says the devastation is the worst he's seen in his 29 years as Fire Chief. "It's pretty bad, it's tore up some roads, it broke some culverts, it's pretty extensive. It's Chadwicks, you know, we don't get that kind of weather in Chadwicks. It's the worst I've ever seen it--29 years as Fire Chief, that's the worst I've ever seen it," he said.

Hughes says noone was hurt but some residents were evacuated, and a 90-year-old woman had to be rescued from her flood damaged home. New Hartford Police Department, Sergeant Robert Philo says motorists should not drive through accumulated water on the roadways and should contact the Fire Department if they have water in their basements. He said water coming in contact with appliances or any electrical equipment could prove to be very dangerous. He said Fire Fighters will come out and drain out the water. Officials say the cost of the damage in Chadwicks and surrounding area has yet to be determined.
