CLAY, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have charged the 19-year-old driver of a car that struck and killed a man walking along a suburban Syracuse road with his daughter.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says Dante Altieri of the town of Clay was charged Monday with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving across hazard markings.

Deputies say Altieri was driving in his hometown early Saturday morning when he hit 54-year-old Joseph Roderka of Liverpool as he walked with his 21-year-old daughter, who wasn't hurt.

Roderka was taken to a Syracuse hospital, where he later died.

Altieri drove home to tell his parents that he hit something. He returned to the scene with his parents and was stopped by police.

Altieri was released after being arraigned. It couldn't be determined if he had a lawyer.
