LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a woman whose body and vehicle were found in a suburban Syracuse creek apparently crashed during whiteout conditions.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says county park rangers patrolling Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool discovered an unoccupied SUV partially submerged in a creek Thursday night.

Firefighters found a woman's body under the ice in 4 feet of water. She was pulled from the water and pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies on Friday identified the woman as 50-year-old Daphne Washburn of Liverpool. Police say they determined she was driving when she encountered extreme whiteout conditions from Thursday's lake-effect storm.

Deputies say Washburn drifted off the road before crashing into the ice-covered creek. They say she apparently got out of the SUV not knowing she was in the creek and was unable to get out of the water.
