Albany, NY (WIBX) - Sales increased five thousand percent over last year.  Governor Andrew Cuomo is announcing that sales of discounted Empire Passports over the Cyber Monday sales day surpassed all expectations.

In the one day sale the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation sold 22,636 passports despite a note on the agency's website warning consumers that many parks have been damaged or closed because of Hurricane Sandy.

The Empire State passports were sold for forty dollars each, instead of the normal price of sixty dollars.

Empire Passports are actually decals that provide access to states parks and recreational facilities throughout New York.  There are 179 state parks in New York and 35 historic sites that accept the decals for admission.  For more information visit New York State Parks at www.nysparks.com or call: (518) 474.0456.
