Broadband internet access for every New Yorker.

That's the goal of a new program outlined today by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo will create a $500 million New NY Broadband Program to incentivize the private sector to expand high-speed broadband access in underserved and unserved areas.

Matching private sector investments will push the size of the program to $1 billion.

The governor says the program will ensure that every New Yorker has access to high-speed internet by 2019.

The initiative is the third component of Governor Cuomo's "2015 State of Opportunity Agenda.

Assemblyman Marc Butler says many parts of his district have very limited access to broadband internet.

He says access to high-speed internet is important to grow the economy and strengthen education.

Butler says he looks forward to learning more details about the New NY Broadband Program in the coming days.
