The State Department of Environmental Conservation will begin a three year study of the Mohawk River fish species beginning this week.

The $200,000 project is funded by the DEC and the U.S. Geological Survey and is intended to improve knowledge and understanding of fisheries in the main stem of the Mohawk River.

The study will also identify management practices that could reduce the affects of invasive species, climate change or other factors that could impact fish in the river.

This is the first comprehensive study of Mohawk River fish species in more than 30 years.
