SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Deliberations have begun at the felony gun trial of a former New York judge after the replacement of a juror who appeared to be falling asleep during closing arguments.

Prosecutors allege former Rochester judge Leticia Astacio tried to buy a shotgun in violation of her probation stemming from a 2016 drunken driving conviction.

The Democrat and Chronicle says deliberations began on Thursday at her trial, which is being held in Syracuse.

Another juror was dismissed earlier this week after acknowledging that she had watched a television news segment about the trial.

Astacio was stripped of her judgeship last year after a series of incidents including the DWI conviction.

On Monday, Astacio filed paperwork to run for a Rochester City Council seat.
