Senator Joseph Griffo today announced the State Department of Transportation will speed up the schedule for completing work on an Oneida County reconstruction project. The DOT will contribute $1.38 million for the replacement of the Chenango Road bridge over Sauquoit creek.

The bridge borders the Town of New Hartford and the City of Utica.

Griffo said the Chenango road project will be funded through the New York Works Highway and Bridge Project Acceleration Program.

"I'm pleased that the state is accelerating work on critical road and bridge projects across New York State, including this one here at home in Oneida County," Griffo said. "In light of our region's ongoing flooding concerns, completions of these superstructure projects are also critical for motorist safety and economic development. We appreciate the DOT moving to getting them done as quickly as possible."

The DOT has announced that preliminary work on the project is scheduled to begin shortly.

As part of the NY Works program passed by the Governor and Legislature last year, the Accelerated Bridge program is innovative capitol program delivery approach designed to reduce the long list of deficient bridges that require replacement.
