A 513 acre site in downtown Rome has been designated as one of the state's 12 new Brownfield Opportunity Areas. The announcement was made by Governor Andrew Cuomo

The designation will provide resources for Rome and other designated communities to re-develop former industrial areas for new uses

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says the announcement comes at a great time, as sections of East Rome are seeing new commercial and residential projects.

Brindisi says the revitalization of the area will also be a major boost as the city continues to develop the area near the Erie Canal and Mohawk River for a variety of recreational uses.
