EEE Detected In Central New York Mosquito Pools
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Eastern equine encephalitis has been detected in mosquito pools in Onondaga and Oswego counties in central New York.
Eastern equine encephalitis — or EEE — is a rare but potentially deadly viral disease spread by mosquitoes. There have been no confirmed human cases of EEE in New York since 2015.
The state Department of Health is advising New York residents to take personal protective measures, such as using repellents and eliminating standing water in yards.
There is no commercially available human vaccine for EEE.
