NORWICH, N.Y. (AP) — A jury has convicted a father of killing his adopted teenage son and burning down the family's central New York home to cover up the crime.

Ernest Franklin was found guilty Friday by a Chenango County jury after less than two hours of deliberation. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

Franklin and his wife were charged with murder and arson in the March 2017 death of 16-year-old Jeffrey Franklin, who was deaf and had behavior issues. Prosecutors say the crime was inspired by the movie "Manchester by the Sea," where a father accidentally starts a fire that kills his children.

Franklin's lawyer disputed autopsy report conclusions.

Heather Franklin will be tried separately.

The fire destroyed the family's home in Guilford, 55 miles (88 kilometers) southeast of Syracuse.
