Fight Over Use Of BBQ Grill Lands Utica Man In Jail

Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Olbiston Apartments is back in the news...this time, for a fight over a gas grill. Yesterday, Utica police say they arrested one of the residents for allegedly flipping over his coal grill toward a neighbor, after being denied the use of the man's gas grill.

The suspect, 44-year-old John Calenda, who police say is also a level 3 sex-offender, is charged with:

• Assault in the 3rd Degree,
• Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree
• Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree

Police say the victim sustained burns on his arm from the coals. Calenda is also accused of kicking a window to the building and damaging it during the argument.
