Former Head of Technology Sentenced in Theft of $1M

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — The former head of technology at the parent company of a popular Vermont cheesemaker is headed to prison in connection with the theft of $1 million.

WCAX-TV (http://bit.ly/29MoMkF ) reports that 54-year-old Ronald Rup Jr., formerly of Fairfax, was sentenced to more than two years behind bars Thursday in a federal court in Brattleboro. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud in November.

Records show the Essex Junction man was responsible for buying information technology network equipment for Agri-Mark from 2012 to 2014. Agri-Mark owns Cabot Creamery. Rup admitted to purchasing unnecessary property for the company and converting the items to his own use or selling them and pocketing the proceeds.

He will begin serving his sentence in September.
