Rome, NY (WIBX) - Retired Rome Police Chief Edward Cretaro has died. The Rome Police Department says Cretaro passed away at his home yesterday.

Creatro joined the Rome PD as a patrolman in 1958 and retired as chief in 1991.

During his tenure, Cretaro was instrumental in forming the Special Investigations Unit and the DARE Program in Rome Schools.

Calling hours for Cretaro will be held on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Griffin-Aldridge Gulla Funeral Home on North Washington Street.

His funeral will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 at Saint Johns Church on East Dominick Street.
