Camden, NY (WIBX) - U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced the Camden Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded thousands in federal grant funding.

The grant was $129, 509 and will go toward buying the fire department fire protection gear and help to train additional firefighters.

This essential grant ensures that the Camden Volunteer Fire Department will continue to have the basic resources required to do their job, improve safety and save lives," Schumer said. "These funds are truly a life saving investment that will provide our local first responders with indispensable resources and support, so they can be better prepared for emergencies."

The grant was awarded on a competitive basis as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
