Senator Joseph Griffo is calling on the State Public Service Commission to investigate skyrocketing heat and electric bills.

Griffo says we need to know what utilities are gouging customers and how they can be stopped.

He says National Grid customers are paying, on average, about double what they were paying during the winter months in 2012 and 2013.

Griffo has also invited the PSC's commissioners to a town-hall style meeting in his district.

In the interim, Griffo is urging his constituents to research the different electric and gas suppliers and take advantage of the open, competitive market if possible. Customers can shop and compare prices at www.newyorkpowertochoose.com.
