Senator Joseph Griffo is hosting a free disposal event this Saturday at the Westgate Shopping Plaza in Rome.

The public is invited to bring old confidential documents, electronics and unwanted prescription medication for safe free disposal.

The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Volunteers will be on hand to help residents dispose of their unwanted material.

"I'm pleased to be working again with several community partners who have proven experience in these specialized types of responsible recycling and disposal," Griffo said. "Confidata is an upstate industry leader in data destruction. Sunnking Electronics will be on site to accept old or unwanted computers and electronics. And since left-over drugs in our homes can contribute to potentially fatal recreational or accidental misuse, as well as environmental damage to our waterways when disposed of improperly, City of Rome Police Department officers will be there to take household medications."

The Westgate Plaza will also be hosting family-themed fall activities during the day.
