TICONDEROGA, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York historical organization has received a grant to conserve a nearly century-old mural depicting significant battles fought in northeastern New York.

The $7,500 grant for the Ticonderoga Historical Society was provided by the Greater Hudson Heritage Network in partnership with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.

The funding will pay to conserve a 4-foot-by-8-foot mural that English graphic artist Ernest Clegg was commissioned to create in 1925 for the opening of Hancock House, home of the Ticonderoga Historical Society.

The mural is a map overlaid with artwork and descriptions of the 18th and early 19th century battles fought from Saratoga to Plattsburgh.

The museum piece will undergo three months of conservation work by experts in Vermont.
