Tornado Count Climbs to 6 After 2 More Confirmed in New York
Two More Tornadoes Confirmed in New York
Two more confirmed tornadoes have been added to the list from the latest round of severe weather in New York—and once again, both were quick hitters that moved through in a matter of minutes.
The National Weather Service has now confirmed an EF-0 tornado in Cortland County and an EF-1 tornado in Yates County, both of which touched down during storms on June 18.

Cortland County: Brief EF-0 Touchdown
In Cortland County, an EF-0 tornado with estimated winds around 80 mph tracked just under 2 miles, touching down west of Cortland shortly after 11:30 AM.
Damage was mostly trees—snapped and uprooted in patterns that helped survey teams confirm rotation.

The tornado stayed brief, weakened as it moved east, and transitioned into straight-line wind damage by the time it reached town.
Yates County: Stronger EF-1 Near Seneca Lake
In Yates County, things got a bit more intense.
An EF-1 tornado with winds up to 90 mph tracked from the Rock Stream area toward Seneca Lake, carving a narrow but noticeable path just over a mile long.
Survey teams found uprooted trees, damaged structures, and debris, including shingles found a quarter mile away.
Even with that damage, there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
Another Round in a Busy Weather Pattern
These two confirmations add to what’s already been an active stretch of severe weather across New York this season.
Most of these tornadoes have been short-lived, fast-moving, and narrow—but still strong enough to leave damage behind before anyone really has time to react.
Confirmed Twisters in New York
The first twister of the season was rated EF-1, with estimated peak winds of 107 mph. It hit Machias in Cattaraugus County on March 31.
The second struck in the same spot on April 15. It only produced winds of 75 mph.
The third twister touched down in the Town of Farmersville in Cattaraugus County on April 15 with 80 MPH winds.
The fourth hit Hammond on May 29.
