The Oneida County Sheriff's Office has a new four-legged member.

"Natalie" is a nearly two-year old Chocolate Lab that's trained in narcotics detection.

The Sheriff's Office got the dog from Freedom Guide Dogs at no cost to taxpayers.

Sheriff Rob Maciol says "Natalie"  didn’t meet the criteria of Freedom Guide Dogs, but after spending some time with Sgt. James Danquer of the Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, Natalie clearly met the criteria of the Sheriff’s Office.

After completing some very successful training, Deputy John Cusack and "Natalie" are now actively working together daily in the areas of narcotics detection and public relations throughout all of Oneida County.

A check for $500 was presented to Freedom Guide Dog by the Oneida County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Foundation.
