The Utica College women's hockey team got back on track Friday night with a 4-3 win over SUNY Cortland. Freshman Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) led the Pioneers with two goals.

The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead just 2:19 into the game off goals from Schnepp and Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy).Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional)assisted on Schnepp's eighth of the year, while Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) and Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Lysander Lightning) added helper's on Reed's seventh tally. Schnepp added another goal ten minutes later, unassisted, to give Utica a 3-0 lead. However, Cortland got one back with four minutes left in the first to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Red Dragons were able to net two in the second period to head into the second intermission with a 3-3 score. Maines scored the only goal of the third period, on the power play to seal the victory for UC.Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride) assisted on Maines' sixth of the year.

Marissa McNamara (Camillus, NY/Lysander Lightning) finished the game with 10 saves in net for Utica, while her counterpart, Deanna Meunier had 26 saves. Utica improves to 12-5 on the season. Both teams return to Utica Saturday for the series finale. The opening faceoff is at 2:30 p.m.
