BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Lawmakers say it’s time to upgrade the small and aging Amtrak station in Buffalo after part of the ceiling collapsed during heavy rain.

The waiting area remains closed following the collapse last week.

New York Congressman Brian Higgins wants the state to release money for a review of options for a new downtown station, possibly at a different location.

Sen. Charles Schumer (SHOO’-mur), meantime, is calling for a summit in Washington to develop a plan and funding strategy. He says he’s invited Amtrak officials as well as local transportation and elected officials to participate.

Buffalo’s station was built in 1952.
