Albany, NY (WIBX) - A bill to require up to date photographs of convicted sex offenders has passed in the state Senate.

Senator Joseph Griffo says the bill will ensure that photos for level three sex offenders are updated and are an accurate representation of their most current appearances.

He says the former system for updating photos was unacceptable, pointing to the case of convicted rapist Robert Blainey.

A photo of Blainey released after he broke parole bore no resemblance to the actual suspect.

Griffo says a version of the bill has passed in the Assembly and will go to the Governor for his consideration.
