Legislative Aide Facing Domestic Violence Charges Resigns
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A senior aide to a New York state senator has resigned in the face of felony domestic violence charges.
Robert Nickol was initially placed on paid leave following his arraignment last week. The 32-year-old is accused of injuring a woman by striking her leg with a television cord last year. He also faces a felony strangulation charge related to an alleged incident in 2015.
Nickols had served as counsel to Sen. William Larkin, an Orange County Republican.
Larkin's office said the senator accepted Nickol's resignation on Tuesday. Nickols had worked for the senator for seven years. His current salary was $92,000.
Attempts to reach Nickols on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
