State Senator Thomas Libous returned to the Capitol in Albany June 16, greeting colleagues as he continues to battle cancer.

The Binghamton Republican had spent several weeks in Florida after undergoing back surgeries. He had dealt with complications caused by an infection.

Libous told Time Warner Cable News that he was "excited" and "thrilled" to be back. He received a standing ovation from fellow senators.

Instead of handshakes, Libous received fist bumps from colleagues who had been asked to help him avoid infections.

As Libous deals with his ongoing health challenges, he's preparing for his federal trial on a felony charge that he lied to federal agents.

Libous was indicted on the single count last July 1. His trial is scheduled to start in less than four weeks in Westchester County.
