Utica, NY (WIBX) - A group of eight central New York kids have won First Place and $1,000 in the National Museum of Education's 'Students Innovate for a Better America Competition'.

The students, calling themselves NASSA (Neighborhood After School Science Association) made a display featuring several different forms of renewable energy. The display, G-BASH, included geothermal, biofuels, air (wind), solar and hydropower.

The group has decided to donate all of its $1,000 prize to the Children's Museum in Utica. The money will go toward the museum's new 'Green STEM Room', according to Marlene Brown, executive director of the Children's Museum.

"They really are our sponsor. They always try to help us with ideas and they always put our projects on display to show what we've learned and so other children can learn, and get enthusiastic about science," Maryann Bulawa said of the group's donation to the Children's Museum.

The students who subsmitted the display are: Maryann Bulawa, Adia Bulawa, Jennie Bulawa, Lillith Bulawa, Fiona Dutcher, Baylen Marschall, Tyler Marshall and Ben Olney.
