Utica, NY (WIBX) - Governor Cuomo has appointed a local woman to serve in the New York State Canal Recreationway Commission.

Senator James Seward recommended Linda Vincent of Little Falls to serve as a member of the Commission.

"Linda Vincent understands the tourism industry and its importance to the Mohawk Valley economy. She also has a clear understanding of the role the Erie Canal plays on both fronts," Senator Seward said. "I was pleased to recommend her to the governor and commend him on the appointment. I wish Linda well in this important advisory position."

Improving recreational opportunities, stimulating economic development, and preserving the best of the canal's history are the three main goals of the Commission.

Vincent will work with other Commissioners to complete the three main tasks.

There is no compensation for this position.
