State Canal Corp To Use Non Toxic Dye To Test Water In Trenton

The New York State Canal Corporation will use a non-toxic dye to identify potential seepage on the Nine Mile Feeder Flume in the Town of Trenton.

Officials say the testing, using a fluorescent green dye, will take place over the next several weeks and is not harmful to individuals, animals or the environment.

The Canal Corp will use the test results to determine whether any maintenance or repair work is needed.

Traces of the dye may be observed downstream in Nine Mile Creek, the Erie Barge Canal and the Mohawk River in the vicinity of Trenton and Marcy.
