Smithfield, NY (WIBX) - Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a serious accident that occurred at approximately 1:00 AM Sunday morning on Pleasant Valley Road, between Old County Road and Brooks Road in the Town of Smithfield.

Three vehicles were involved. One vehicle, a pickup truck, was heading south on Pleasant Valley Road when the driver experienced mechanical problems and pulled off on the shoulder of the northbound lane. A passerby stopped to render assistance and pulled their vehicle along-side the pickup truck. The third vehicle was proceeding north on Pleasant Valley Road when it's driver, 35 year old Christopher Graham, of Oneida, struck both stopped vehicles when his pickup truck drove between them. Graham was not injured as a result of the crash.
Occupants of the pickup truck that had broken down were outside the vehicle at the time of collision, along with the passing motorist offering assistance. The three occupants, names of which are not being released at this time, were injured. A male was transported to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse by SEVAC Ambulance in serious condition. Another male and female were transported to Upstate Hosptial by CAVAC Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Another occupant of the truck was evaluated on the scene and refused further medical treatment. The driver of the vehicle that stopped to offer assistance was not injured.

Alcohol was a factor in the accident. Graham is facing charges that are still pending at this time. Further details on the those injured and charges will be released Monday morning, August 20th upon completion of the investigation.
