A man is being charged with criminal obstruction of breathing after a woman accused him of attempting to strangle her during the summer.

The victim claims that 33-year-old Taki Johnson's alleged actions on July 3, 2014 violated an order of protection.

Johnson was located near James and Chestnut Streets in  Rome, New York.  He was taken into custody on March 3, 2015 after a search warrant was executed by Utica Police along with the United States Marshal's Service, New York State Parole, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Rome Police, and the New York State Police.

He is facing the following charges:

  • Criminal Obstruction of Breathing (misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Contempt in the first degree (felony)
  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle (misdemeanor)
  • Harassment (violation)
