In light of a surge in gun violence and an incident where the safety of a local police officer was jeopardized, one legislator is calling for what he calls a "top down review" of public safety practices in place in the city of Utica.

Common Councilman Joe Marino says a review of public safety procedures is needed not only for police officers, but also for others who deal directly with the public as well, including codes enforcement officials.

Marino says he hopes to present the findings of a review to the Common Council and residents of the city as soon as it can be completed.
