Massive Flooding in Utica
The heavy rain is making parts of central New York look more like a river than a street. Massive flooding on the Route 12 Arterial brought traffic to a stand still, including Cassandra Stevens who shared her video of the pool filled with cars.
The massive flooding to the newly constructed section of Route 12 is closing the road in both directions between Oriskany St. exit and Noyes St. is until further notice.
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente has issued a travel advisory. There is no unnecessary travel in Utica and the surrounding areas until further notice.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Utica, Rome, Sullivan, Oneida, Kirkland, Lenox, Westmoreland, Eaton, Chittenango and Canastota until 5:30pm. With more rain in the forecast, it could get worse before it gets better.

Drivers should not try and drive through flooded streets. It doesn't take much to sweep you and your vehicle away. Children should not play in the water either. You never know what's beneath the surface.
The heavy rains followed a tornado that tore through Oneida County Friday, June 30th. Downed trees and power lines knocked out power and closed Route 365. A horse barn was destroyed in the storm that also hit Sauquoit.
