Mets, Callaway Win Opener
It's a good start to the 2018 campaign for Mickey Callaway and the Mets, who topped the Cardinals 9-4 on Opening Day at Citi Field.
Noah Syndergaard wasn't perfect - 6 hits, 4 ER over 6 innings - but he struck out 10 to earn the win, out-dueling Carlos Martinez of St Louis.
The Met offense tallied a dozen hits, including two each from Brandon Nimmo, Yoenis Cespedes, Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Plawecki and Amed Rosario. Cespedes drove in three and Rosaio plated two more.
Jeurys Familia walked a batter but didn't allow a hit as hi pitched the ninth in a non-save situation.
Both teams are off Friday and will resume the series Saturday afternoon. The Mets throw Jacob DeGrom against the Cards' Michael Wacha.
