BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) — A woman and her son are alive after she was hit and thrown nearly 40 feet in a collision that also killed her dogs.

The victim, 32-year-old Kaila Tidd, only suffered scrapes and bruises after a car driven by a juvenile suspect quickly careened around a corner in Batavia, New York and hit her on Saturday.

WGRZ-TV reports (http://on.wgrz.com/2r976XH ) her eight-year-old son was far enough in front of her that he wasn't hit. Tidd's two dogs were struck and killed by the vehicle.

The driver initially fled the scene of the accident, but later returned to the scene. Batavia police are continuing to investigate, and the driver has been released into custody of his parents.
