A record 130 students from area colleges wil be participating in the fall CNY Hackathon at Mohawk Valley Community College's Utica campus.

The two-day competition will be taking place on Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd.

Jake Mihevc, Associate Dean of Business, Cybersecurity and Computer Science at MVCC, says the event brings together cybersecurity students, staff and industry professionals to test students' ability to "hack it" in a virtual environment that simulates cyberspace.

Mihevc says student teams will work to defend vulnerable operating systems from industry professionals.

Participating colleges include MVCC, Utica College, SUNY Poly and Hamilton.  Students from the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Emerging Technology program will also be taking part in the event.

The CNY Hackathon will be held at Utica College in the spring.
