FORT ANN, N.Y. (AP) — A national historic preservation organization plans to acquire the upstate New York site of a Revolutionary War battle.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports (http://bit.ly/2cz2Mdm ) the Washington, D.C.-based Civil War Trust will buy the 165-acre site in the Washington town of Fort Ann from Connecticut businessman Gino Vona. The wooded property, known as Battle Hill, was the scene of fighting between American and British forces in July 1777.

Vona had been attempting for years to get permission from New York state to build a mine on part of his property.

The Civil War Trust will purchase most of the site from Vona, who will donate the rest of the land to the organization.

The group has expanded its focus to also preserve American battlefields from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
