It was an amazing run for the 20 year old New Hartford graduate; but, Derek Bard fell short at the finals of the U. S. Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club near Chicago on Sunday.

Bard faced NCAA champion Bryson DeChambeau of SMU in Sunday's final and fell behind early and was unable to recover, losing 7 and 6 in the 36-hole final at Olympia Fields.

DeChambeau was 2-up after the morning, and won seven out of nine-holes to go 8 up with eight holes to play.  Bard was unable to recover.

Bard, who came into the tournament an underdog ranked 51st in the world, knocked off the number one seed and was thought to be an underdog against DeChambeau, the NCAA champion.

With the advancement into the final round, Bard earns an automatic invite to next years U.S. Open and the Masters.
