Utica, NY (WIBX) - State Police have released new information on the investigation of the fatal stabbing that took place in Sherrill on Tuesday, July 19, 2011.

Police say some of the wounds on David Trebilcock were self-inflicted when he stabbed himself in the chest and cut his wrists after he assaulted 6-year-old Lauren Belius.

Investigators say the wounds on Trebilcock's back were likely caused when Alison Belius tried to stop the attack on her daughter.

The autopsy conducted on the little girl yesterday determined the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds from a kitchen-style steak knife.

The investigation revealed that Trebilcock has no history of mental illness.
