New Year’s Arrest in Utica

A car struck a tree at around two o'clock this morning near Roosevelt Drive and Hawthorne Avenue.

Responding officers arrested 20-year-old Matthew Sypolt of Poland, New York on a charge of alleged DWI after Sypolt, whose driving ability Utica Police say appeared to be impaired, failed to submit to a breath test.

Sypolt was also issued tickets for speeding and performing an unsafe lane change.
