The sheriff of Ulster County is urging all licensed handgun owners to carry their guns.

Sheriff  Paul Van Blarcum says it just makes sense in light of what's happened in San Bernardino and Paris.

Van Blarcum says responsible and trained gun owners are necessary to help protect the public.  He also says off-duty law enforcement officers should also carry, saying they are the best trained to deal with any situation.

The sheriff's Facebook post came just one day after a married couple in California killed 14 people.

Van Blarcum was a guest on Friday morning's "First News With Keeler" show on WIBX.
