Niese, Nieuwenhuis Continue Mets’ Dominance Of Cardinals
Jonathon Niese struck out ten Cardinals in six innings without allowing a run, Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered and drove in three and the Mets slapped St. Louis again, 6-1 on Sunday night at Citi Field.
New York has taken the first three games of the series, outscoring the Cards 19-1. Adron Chambers' RBI single in the eighth inning snapped a streak of 25 2/3 innings of scoreless ball for Mets pitching in the series.
Nieuwenhuis and Andres Torres, hitting 1-2 in the lineup, each had three hits, while Niese added a pair of hits as he improved to 4-2 on the season.
The Mets improved to 31-23 on the season, pulling into a three-way tie with the Nationals and Marlins atop the N.L. East.
New York and St. Louis wrap up their four-game series on Monday afternoon.
