New York Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan released a statement admitting his completion of a voluntary alcohol rehab treatment.

Senator Flanagan realized that drinking was becoming a crutch to deal with pressures of his job and the stress of his responsibilities. He felt it appropriate to be proactive in getting a handle of the situation.

In the statement Flanagan says,

This is a step I needed to take for myself and for my family, and it will allow me to continue to serve and to give back to my community and state. Being a public servant and following in the footsteps of my father has been the greatest honor of my life, and I know that I have much more to accomplish and much more still to do.

At the conclusion of his statement Senator Flanagan took the opportunity to encourage others who may be facing a similar problem that there is always help available. He says, "No one is immune. Seek help and regain your personal pathway through life."

Governor Andrew Cuomo took to Twitter to show his support for Senator John Flanagan.
