NYPD Officer Shot Over The Weekend Dies
NEW YORK (AP) — A senior City Hall official says an officer shot in the head over the weekend has died from his injuries.
The official says Brian Moore was pronounced dead Monday at a Queens hospital. The senior aide to Mayor Bill de Blasio was not authorized to speak publicly about the death until the mayor makes an official announcement.
The 25-year-old officer had been shot in an unmarked car while attempting to stop a man suspected of carrying a handgun Saturday.
After the shooting, Moore was rushed in a patrol car to a hospital where he underwent emergency brain surgery.
The nearly five-year veteran came from a family of police officers.
Police arrested 35-year-old Demetrius Blackwell following the shooting, charging him with attempted murder and other crimes.
His attorney has denied the charges.
