First Oneida County Executive Charles Lanigan Dies
Flags at all Oneida County Buildings will be flown at half-staff through Wednesday in honor of former Oneida County Executive Charles Lanigan.
Lanigan, who was the very first Oneida County Executive in 1963, died Sunday at the age of 89 following a brief illness.
County Executive Anthony Picente says the legacy Lanigan left is the example he set as the Chief Executive of the county.
Picente says he had vision and leadership abilities that every County Executive should try to emulate.
He says Lanigan's leadership led to construction a new County Office building and he was also a catalyst for the creation of a SUNY campus in Marcy.
Lanigan was also a member of the New York State Thruway Authority.
