One Car Crash in Downtown Utica Leads to Drug Arrest
A one-car crash in Downtown Utica has led to a drug arrest.
According to Utica Police, units were called to Hopper Street near Genesee Street Friday evening for a report of a motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival officers noticed the driver had left the road, severed a utility pole and struck a second. They also noticed the driver, 33-year-old Edwin Heredia, was unresponsive.
Heredia was removed from the vehicle and officers attempted to revive him. Utica Fire eventually arrived on scene and administered the drug Narcan, due to the fact he was showing signs of a possible opioid overdose. Heredia regained consciousness and was transported to St. Elizabeth's.
An investigation revealed a large quantity of narcotics in Heredia's vehicle. He is facing several charges including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
