Rome, NY (WIBX) - The Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome is slated to close under Governor Cuomo's plan to consolidate the state prison system.

That list of seven facilities also including Camp Georgetown in Madison County, along with Arthur Kill in Richmond County and Mid-Orange in Orange County. Others on the list are Buffalo Work Release in Erie County, Summit Shock in Schoharie County and Fulton Work Release in Bronx County.

Cuomo had pledged to make consolidations due to a declining inmate population. It's expected to save the state $184 million a year.

Communities affected by the closure will be able to apply for economic development assistance from the state, and receive tax credits. The Governor's Office say the assistance will help end the reliance on prisons as a major source of employment and economic stability.
