It is with a heavy heart the Oneida County Sheriff's Office announces the death of retired Sheriff William Hasenauer.

Sheriff Hasenauer was the Sheriff of Oneida County from the early 70s until he retired in 1990. He served approximately 18 1/2 years. The Sheriff's office made the announcement on their Facebook page Wednesday evening.

Current Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol tells WIBX, "Even though Sheriff Hasenauer is best known for being Oneida County’s longest serving Sheriff, he also was known for his strong commitment of doing everything he could to keep Oneida County and it’s people safe. I was very lucky to have had him as both a friend and a mentor."

Hasenauer spent over 30 years in law enforcement before retiring as Sheriff. Prior to his tenure as the top law enforcement official in Oneida County, Hasenauer served as Undersheriff in the late 60s to the early 70s.

At this time funeral arrangements and services have not been scheduled. WIBX will continue to provide more details as they become available. Our condolences are with his family, friends and the law enforcement community as a whole.
