Utica, NY (WIBX) - In an effort to educate teens about the dangers and responsibility of driving, County Executive Anthony Picente is taking the Teen Traffic Safety Program on the road. Picente says the aim is to reach as many young people as possible to continue to stress the message that hazardous driving kills.

Picente said, "Getting behind the wheel of an automobile is one of the most dangerous undertakings that they [young people] may encounter in their life. I think we all take it for granted, we just get up everyday, whether go to work or school, we get behind the wheel and drive and it is, and can be a very dangerous experience."

He says inexperienced driving is still the number one killer of young people. The program includes a presentation using a DWI Traffic Safety simulator that will allow students to experience first hand the dangers of drunk driving. Other presentations will be on Work Zone safety, roll overs and the importance of using a seat belt. The program kicks-off tomorrow at Westmoreland High School.

The dates and times for the schools scheduled for a traffic safety presentation are as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 26: Westmoreland High School
  • Wednesday, April 27: Clinton High School
