Utica, NY (WIBX) - You've heard of the $6 million man but today it's the $6 million county that's grabbing headlines.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente and Comptroller Joseph Timpano are putting the emphasis on cost-cutting and not increased revenue as the reason behind a budgetary surplus of $6,044,000 million.

In order to maintain existing programs in tough economic times the County has laid off workers and cut programs. Picente says his administration's focus has been on fiscal responsibility.

He says the news is great but they're not ready to cut taxes any time soon, and are proposing that additional monies be put into the County's rainy-day fund.
